As you can imagine it takes hours of work tracing land owners, writing letters and eventually having a meeting to discuss the possibility of gaining access across a property. As such, our program of walks is still being developed and at present offers the following for 2011/12. Please scroll down the page for a full description & itinerary of a particular walk.

This walking tour is more than just a walk; it’s a complete holiday from start to finish. Not only will you feel invigorated by being active, but also fascinated & stimulated by the places we visit as well as being informed and enriched by the people we meet. If you have not been to Tasmania before you will have the opportunity to explore the highlights of two of Tasmania’s fine cities Hobart & Launceston as well as experience something of Tasmania’s rich historic past with your day at Port Arthur on the dramatic Tasman Peninsula. Your walk will take you across rolling hills, rural pastures & pure white remote beaches to the towering cliff tops of Tasmania’s East Coast. You will cross peaceful tidal estuaries and from the comfort of your warm & homely accommodation will look out from your bedroom on a fine day to a sunrise over the Tasman Sea. In Hobart’s Battery point and Salamanca Place you will soak up the past, perhaps sipping coffee on a cobbled walkway or view a tall ship in Constitution dock. If you’re looking for a holiday that unwinds & removes some of the stresses of city life then what could be better than viewing crystal clear aquamarine waters in the intimate bays and almost surreal tiny coves of the Freycinet National Park. Indeed a holiday of contrasts.
We have timed this holiday to commence on the Sunday morning so that guests have the opportunity to arrive in Hobart a day or two before the holiday to take advantage of the Salamanca Market on the Saturday & explore the delightful Battery Point area or perhaps take a trip up Mt. Wellington if the weather is suitable.
Guests meet at the Old Woolstore Hotel, close to Hobart’s historic water front at 0800 on the day of departure. If arriving in Hobart the previous day you can make your own accommodation arrangements for the Saturday night* or we can arrange this for you at the Woolstore Hotel at a preferential rate. It is very important that you arrive on time as your guides will check your walking gear for suitability & if requested provide you with suitable hired clothing (see section on “Suitable Clothing & Equipment”) Morning tea/coffee will be provided prior to setting off for our drive to the Tasman Peninsula. On arrival at Port Arthur at lunch time, guests will have the option of spending the afternoon exploring the Port Arthur historic site or several short walks in the area. Accommodation & dinner will be at the Fox & Hounds Hotel. * If you require a pick up from your Hobart accommodation on the morning of departure, please advise us at least 24 hours ahead by phone or email & we will be glad to collect you and bring to the Old Wool store.
Today is our first full day of walking following the coast from Fortescue Bay to Eagle Hawk Neck. Accommodation at the Lufra Hotel, Eaglehawk Neck. (three pictures)

Returning to Grindstone Bay we continue along the coast to Little Swanport, with distant but enticing views of the Hazards on Freycinet Peninsula. At Limkiln Point we are picked up by boat & weather permitting we are given an interpretive tour of the local oyster farm & then dropped on the other side of the estuary. Accommodation at Kabuki by the sea. Swansea. (two pictures)
After a fairly long day yesterday we travel on to Coles Bay & the magnificent pink granite mountains that dominate this beautiful area. Short walks to Sleepy Bay & on Richardson’s Beach with perhaps an evening stroll around the Cape Tourville Lighthouse or just sit on the deck at the Bistro & soak up the ambiance of this wonderful place. Accommodation at Freycinet Lodge. (two pictures)
Our last full day of walking, visiting Wineglass Bay & lunch on Hazards Beach. Accommodation at Freycinet Lodge.
Alas, our holiday is almost complete we travel to Launceston, via the beautiful Fingal Valley with a final lunch together en-route. We can drop you at you hotel or other accommodation or to the Airport if departing that evening. For those wishing to return to Hobart we can arrange this for you. Car Hire is readily available in Launceston or we can arrange additional day tours to the surrounding area, including the Tamar Valley.

In off track areas, the grass will generally be short, but longer grass will be encountered depending on time of the year.30% will be on well worn tracks, from fairly rocky uneven ground to sandy tracks. Some muddy sections maybe encountered. You can expect to be walking for about six hours most days.
